Accident Forgiveness – an Insurance Company Scam

Note:  I am retired from Allstate Insurance Company. I spent over twenty-five years in the claim department.  I have attended hundreds of meetings where adjusters were encouraged to pay as little as possible on claims.  It is called “claim severity” and it is measured monthly.  Those employees whose average payout is less than the office average are rewarded and the others are not. The pressure is unrelenting.

I really HATE the phony Allstate television commercial regarding accident forgiveness.  I know how this company operates.  Here is how a policyholder earns a check from the benevolent company.  The six month premium is an overcharge based upon actuarial statistics.  Because so many policyholders will be trying to earn the check, they will be discouraged from filing small claims.  The company wins ($$$$) by not paying for customers’ claims that are not filed.  So, the company happily pays back a fraction of what they have taken in.  The icing on the commercial cake is that a tall, handsome, black man with a deep, comforting voice, assures viewers that the company cares about each policyholder.

Tell that to the tens of thousands of homeowners who lost insurance protection after Hurricane Ivan.
